Columbia-Middletown Lodge March 2010 Bulletin

Columbia-Middletown Lodge No. 1074, PO Box 549, 445 Chestnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512

The Lodge year is rapidly coming to a close.  This Lodge year has been the most successful in recent memory.  Excellent management and member patronage of the grill room, the efforts and generosity of the Ladies Auxiliary, separate fund raising activities initiated to support building maintenance, and a high level of involvement from the members and officers in the management of Lodge have propagated this success.  Even after donating record funds to various charities we move into the new Lodge year with a comfortable balance in the House Committee bank account and a sizeable nest egg in the Lodge investment account.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Doc Doc and Audrey Nau, along with Mel Basham, and the House Committee have done an absolutely outstanding job of managing the Grill Room operation.  Doc and Audrey’s tireless efforts and constant presence have made the Grill Room a place that people (including the members of surrounding Lodges) enjoy frequenting.  This level of participation is required to assure continuance of the Lodge.

The Ladies Auxiliary under the leadership of Sue Coyle has put in a lot of effort to raise money and make those funds available to major maintenance projects like the porch and updating the interior of the Grill Room.  As with the success of the Grill Room this level of effort is vital to the long term health of the organization.

The Lodge Trustees and Treasurer have taken an active role in the oversight of funds and management of our Lodge investment account.  Lest we forget, our ability to establish an investment fund was the direct result of the misfortune suffered by another Lodge, an indicator of just how fragile the existence of a non-profit organization can be.  If the management of the Lodge continues to be executed in a competent manner, the nest egg afforded by our long term investments will help us weather future storms.  For the first time in five years as an officer we were recognized as being in full compliance to our ritualistic obligations, another indicator of the commitment made by the Lodge officers.  Our Lodge secretary has worked diligently to assure adherence to all Grand Lodge obligations and requirements.     I can’t over emphasize how much the present health of the organization is attributed to the involvement of the Lodge membership at all levels.  I have always been amazed at how those that are always so quick to criticize, are so loathe to become directly involved.  Conversely in this past year, I have been continually amazed by the increasing willingness of people to come forward to participate and make the Lodge so successful.  I want to thank everyone for making my third tour, the easiest and most enjoyable ever, and urge you to show the incoming leadership the same level of commitment.

With Best Wishes for the Continued Success of Columbia-Middletown Lodge #1074!

    Regards, Steve Kaylor, ER

Fundraiser For Megan Stoner,Grand-Daughter of Ken-Kathy Shuman My name is Megan Stoner, I am in the 9th grade and go to Mary Mother Of The Church in Mount Joy.  In August of 2011, I will be traveling to Spain and Italy for a World Youth Day In Europe, for Catholic teens all around the world.  I will have the opportunity to go on several retreats, meeting the Pope and Bishops.  In order to raise enough money, I need to have several fundraisers, and a lot of support!  On April 25th, there will be a Meat Bingo held at the Columbia-Middletown Elks.  All profits go to the Youth Group, for this once in a lifetime event.  I ask that you help by attending the Meat Bingo.  Thanks for you support.
